Research summary
This study will look at the experience of mothers who have lost an unborn child due to an illness which limits the child’s growth. The illness happens in 10-15% of pregnant women. It is important that we can help the staff working with these women to know more about their emotions and needs during this difficult time.
The study will involve a trainee meeting with women who have lost their child over 6 months ago, but not more than 4 years ago. The trainee will ask a series of questions, that the mother can give as much or as little information for as she wants. She will be asked about what happened to her when she was told her baby was much smaller than usual. She will be asked what staff did to make things easier or harder at the time. The Trainee will also ask what could be changed to make things better for mothers.
This information will then be looked at by the trainee and her supervisors to see if there is anything that more than one person seems to say, and also to see what people’s experience of this situation was.
The information we collect will hopefully help the medical team who work with women in this situation, provide more emotional support.REC name
