Research summary
This study aims to further our understanding of what a feasible and acceptable system for routine self-weighing is in NHS primary care. Patients attending their GP will be asked to weigh themselves before their appointment. There are two principal sub-studies: firstly an ethnographic study will observe patient flow around the scales and patient interaction with practice staff and other patients; secondly an interview and focus group study with patients, their GP and practice staff to assess the acceptability of routine weighing and any impact on the subsequent consultations; and also the feasibility for the GPs and practice staff of adding weight measurements to the medical record.
