  • Research summary

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) guidance states that all people with psychosis accessing health services should be offered Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as standard practise (NICE Guidelines, 2014). Despite this, a recent review has found that barriers to care, such as low confidence in CBTp skills, prioritising the biomedical model and underfunding, often prevent people with psychosis accessing psychological therapy (Switzer & Harper, 2019). Research suggests that CBTp may be most effectively delivered in teams where training in both low and high-intensity psychological interventions are available to all staff.

This project therefore aims to conduct an initial evaluation of training of junior frontline staff to deliver a third wave CBT group intervention to individuals with psychosis in order to facilitate more service users to access psychological therapies.

The project aims specifically to determine the feasibility of evaluating the intervention using a small sample randomised control design in order to inform a potential full-scale randomised control trial in the future, as well as possible subsequent service implementation.
