Research summary
The FCR Pilot Study is investigating the impact on physical fitness and wellbeing of playing football for cardiac rehabilitation in men with coronary heart disease.
Coronary heart disease remains a leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the UK and worldwide. Unequivocal evidence shows that increasing levels of fitness (through exercise) improves life expectancy and quality of life. Traditionally exercise has been delivered in the form of circuit training however the FCR Pilot Study delivers the exercise by playing football.
This study is in men with coronary heart disease where 8 weeks of once weekly football training will be evaluated with their fitness, cardiovascular risk factors and quality of life measured at baseline and after the 8 weeks.
It is being undertaken in Bart's Health NHS Trust in East London, UK.REC name
