Research summary
This study aims to measure the impact of a patient and public involvement group (PPI); "the Feasibility and Acceptability Support Team for researchers (FAST-R)".
FAST-R is a service provided by the Maudsley Biomedical Research Centre's (BRC) Participant and Carer Involvement and Engagement theme. The service provides researchers with access to people with experience of mental health problems and carers, who have been specially trained to advise on research proposals, participant information sheets (PIS) and consent forms.
PPI in research is reasoned to lead to treatments that better meet people's needs and are more likely to be put into practice. However, research into the measurement of the impact of PPI has so far been under-explored. This study will help to understand what impact PPI makes, and where and when involvement brings the greatest benefits.
Our study will look at the efficacy of the FAST-R service by comparing PIS before it has undergone FAST-R review and the PIS with changes made post FAST-R review.REC name
