Research summary
The aim of this research is to interview people that have a history of sexual offending behaviours and are diagnosed with a borderline learning disability or learning disability (an IQ of 80 or less) living in a range of different community settings (e.g. residential settings, supported living, own residence etc.) in the hopes to investigate the positive factors that are supporting them to reintegrate into the community and as a result help prevent reoffending sexual behaviours. Staff that support these individuals will also be interviewed in order to obtain their perspective on what they feel has helped the clients reintegrate into the community and helped in prevention of reoffending sexual behaviours. All interviews will be digitally recorded and then transcribed by the lead researcher. The answers given by participants will then be analysed using thematic analysis. This involves identifying codes and themes that emerge from the responses given by the participants in the hopes to answer the proposed research question. The analysis will be completed using 'the six phases' outlined by Braun and Clarke (2006).
