Research summary
The question of whether patients are satisfied with treatment is an important one, as satisfaction is one of the primary goals of treatment. This study is a mixed methods cross-sectional study. The initial qualitative study will investigate those areas which affect satisfaction with orthodontic treatment in adult patients. The findings from this component of the research will then allow the development of a questionnaire to assess adult patients’ satisfaction with orthodontic treatment.
No measure currently exists to assess adult patient satisfaction with orthodontic treatment. This information will allow outcomes to be compared and services to be appropriately commissioned and will hopefully allow outcomes to be improved. The research will be truly patient-centred and generalizable.
Thus the aims of this study are to:
1.Investigate those factors which affect satisfaction with orthodontic treatment in adult orthodontic patients
2.To develop a condition-specific, psychometrically tested questionnaire to assess satisfaction with treatment process and outcome.
