Research summary
Inhalation sedation (with nitrous oxide gas) is a safe commonly used mean of anxiety control for children with dental fear and anxiety. National Guidelines on use of nitrous oxide suggest consistent verbal feedback from patients to ensure a minimal level of sedation is maintained. The study looks into different factors that include the initial level of dental anxiety alongside, body mass index, age, medical history, ethnicity, and level of spoken English that may affect the choice to have dental treatment under this modality.
After providing informed consent, parents will be asked to complete a one-time questionnaire and children will be invited to complete an anxiety questionnaire to determine their level of anxiety. Their dental records will be checked at the end of the study to evaluate whether they have completed treatment under this modality or not.
