Research summary
Research question: Can changes in facial expressions be detected in a systematic way using fast 3D reconstruction techniques?
Background: Facial expressions convey non-verbal cues that are important components in the assessment of a critically ill patient. Facial expressions consist mostly of deformations of facial components and their geometric relationships. Recognition of early changes in facial expression could identify early patients who may benefit from intensive care and admitted to the unit at the right time.
Eligible patient: Adult awake patients who do not require oxygen therapy admitted to the Critical Care Complex (patients under Level 1 care) or evaluated by the outreach team in the ward at North Middlesex University Hospital.
Timeliness:
1. We estimate recruitment rates of at least 3 patients per month. Therefore, 3 months will be needed for enrolment for at least 10 patients.
2. We estimate 3 months for manually analysing the AU following the FACS criteria.
3. We estimate 2 months for analysis of the final data.REC name
