Research summary
This research is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) through the South West Doctoral Training Partnership (SWDTP). This research aims to investigate how radiologists approach visual search using standardised displays typically used in cognitive psychological research (e.g., searching for a target T amongst an array of distractors) in addition to real life (anonymised) medical images (e.g., chest x-rays) using eye-tracking technology.
Specifically, our aim is to understand which eye movement patterns predict better accuracy at identifying targets/abnormalities and whether current training practices within the National Imaging Academy Wales (NIAW) are effective at improving diagnostic accuracy and competence. All radiologists in training at the NIAW will be eligible to take part in the study and the study will take place on site. Consenting radiologists will be expected to dedicate at least 2 hours of their time to take part in the study across the whole year. Scheduling will take place around the participants' workdays.
