Research summary
In England there are approximately 3.8 million people with diabetes.Despite a growing number of treatment and therapy options available to people with type 2 diabetes, there is still a rise of physiological complications, which can have a major impact on people's quality of life. Those who struggle to control their type 2 diabetes, and those who struggle to accept their long-term condition may end with poor wellbeing. Despite local services stating that they offer emotional and psychological support to people with diabetes, psychological support to people with type 2 diabetes is scarce. Web based interventions have been introduced to provide the necessary support, however evidence is still unclear about their effectiveness.
The purpose of the overall PhD research is to design a web-based intervention. The study which this document is referring to is one of several components of the PhD. The aim of this study is to carry out two sets of focus groups with people with type 2 diabetes and with healthcare professionals:
1.To explore views around emotional support and explore views around web-based interventions that are available for improving wellbeing.
2.To evaluate the final design of a web-based intervention on paper format.
