Research summary
The study’s principal aim is to explore the impact of the menopause transition for women of Black ancestry living with HIV.
Specifically, the study aims to uncover:
1) Perceptions, knowledge and experiences of the menopause transition (including the intersecting experiences of HIV-status, culture, race, ethnicity and socio-economic status);
2) Menopause-related self-care and healthcare-seeking behaviours including barriers to healthcare and treatment access.The study will collect these insights using interviews and will involve 15 clinic clients (women of black ancestry aged 45-60years) and 8 clinic staff members. The research will be conducted at the Caldecot Centre (part of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust), and is intended to inform future service provision at the clinic.
Subject to approvals, recruitment would start in January 2025 with data collection (interviews) being conducted between March and June 2025.
