Research summary
Aim: The research project aims to explore the lived experience of women with rosacea. Rationale: Whilst the psychological understanding of rosacea is limited within the literature; the studies that have been conducted indicate women are likely to encounter various psychological and social difficulties due to their visible difference. To the author’s knowledge there has yet to be any research that specifically focuses on understanding the lived experience of rosacea. Methods: The research project aims to address this by employing Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) to provide an in-depth exploratory account of the experience of women with rosacea, focusing on the experience of visible difference, diagnosis and treatment. Within this qualitative methodology, the research project will employ semi-structured interviews face to face with up to 8 adult women who have a diagnosis of rosacea. The interviews will be audio recorded, transcribed and analysed in line with IPA research guidelines. Themes that emerge from the transcripts will be produced within a report and the overall findings will be disseminated to professionals in the service and participants involved in the project. Conclusion: It is hoped the research project will highlight possible areas of need for women with rosacea and whether they are addressed by current policy and clinical practices. It is anticipated the project will be submitted to an academic journal for publication consideration as well as being presented at conferences and to staff and colleagues affiliated with the Coventry and Warwick Clinical Psychology Doctorate Course.
