Research summary
In sarcoidosis, over-active immune responses drive formation of immune cell-rich granulomas in the lungs and other affected tissues. For patients with sarcoidosis to have effective and safe treatment options in the future it will be vital to understand the cellular and molecular drivers of the immune response. Our aim is to describe and compare ‘immune signatures’ in sarcoidosis by analysing cells, RNA, and proteins in blood samples and tissue biopsies. \n\nPatients with sarcoidosis attending outpatient clinics at Hull University Teaching Hospitals (HUTH) NHS Trust will be invited to:\n\n1)\tGive a blood sample. The blood sample will be taken by a trained person from an arm vein in the usual way. Up to 50mls (equivalent to 10 teaspoons) will be taken for research. Any samples needed for routine medical care can be taken at the same time. \n2)\tAllow us to use spare biopsy material from diagnostic clinical samples that have been taken as part your medical care. This spare material is stored in the pathology department.\n
