  • Research summary

This research will investigate the subjective experiences of up to 6 service users in forming therapeutic relationships with ward staff in a male low secure forensic mental health setting in Surrey, England. Utilising interpretive phenomenological analysis, the study will aim to understand the lived experiences of a small number of individuals in this population through the delivery of semi-structured interviews. By exploring these individual experiences, this research seeks to understand the perceived quality of relational care provided to male low secure service users and how the meaning these individuals attribute to their experiences can impact general well being and treatment outcomes. Findings may provide mental health professionals, policymakers, and other researchers with valuable insights into the unique perspectives of individuals navigating recovery within this specialised context, which can be used to develop more responsive and effective services, potentially leading to improved mental health outcomes and successful reintegration into the community. This research will not require external funding.
