  • Research summary

This qualitative study will undertake a formal assessment of the potential (therapeutic) benefits/ impact (positive and negative) of recording an audio biography in hospice patients and their family and friends. This research has not previously been done either in a UK context or elsewhere.
As a preliminary study we will interview 6 hospice patients who have recorded their story, plus 4 family members or friends. We will ask about their experience of the interview and recording process and being given/listening to an audio biography.
This preliminary study will then inform a larger scale and more in-depth research project to be undertaken in the future. This study will give the Hospice Biographers charity a greater understanding of the process and impact of their service, it will inform and potentially improve the training delivered to volunteers in the charity.
