Research summary
This study is a cross-sectional observational study of the behaviour and activities of care home residents living with and without dementia. Observations will be carried by two PhD students in WCS care homes in Warwickshire during two weeks of the year. Using direct observation, behaviour and activities will be reported using an adapted version of the McCann Instrument with field notes (K), please see original McCann Instrument (Q). In addition, during the same time period resident's sleep will be recorded using an Emfit device. Both students will collect the same observational data in order to test inter-rater reliability. These findings will inform both students individual research projects. One student will be using activity and behaviour data to explore different activities carried out inside the home and in the garden areas. The other student will be looking at activity and behaviour, and sleep patterns.
