  • Research summary

This research aims to explore the views and experiences of students, staff and patients in relation to a collaborative model (working and learning from and with each other) of student support and learning. As part of a pilot method of using
a collaborative model of student support and learning. Conducting a primary research study into this topic area could yield greater understanding of the factors facilitating collaborative learning in practice. Methods of supporting undergraduate and post graduate Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals has always relied on using a mentoring approach to support and learning, rather than a coaching philosophy. Coaching approaches have associations with higher order critical thinking and increased confidence. By exploring this method of student support and learning, it would inform those professional staff and educators which support student healthcare professionals. The area being studied is healthcare placement support and learning, by better understanding new ways of ensuring high quality placements and student experiences in relation to this, support can be targeted and evidence based. Student, practice supervisors/ educators and patients will be asked to participate in this research study, to gain a fuller picture of the views of those who are best placed to provide their experiences of using or having care delivered from a health care team that uses a collaborative model of student support and learning. The study qualitative interviews will be conducted across hospital and community sites and clinical areas. Interviews will take place over a period of 2 months and 1-2-1 interviews will last for 45 minutes.
