  • Research summary

The aim of this study is to understand more about parents' experiences of having their child experience a brain injury.
A child’s brain injury can change the family in many ways. We know about some of the difficulties parents face, for example increased stress and worry, or struggling to come to terms with the changes they might see in their child. However, we do not have a complete picture of how parents make sense of these difficulties and how they cope with them.
When something life-changing happens, people often develop a life story around that event. This can help them make sense of what they have been through. It can also help them communicate their experience to other people. Narrative enquiry is a type of qualitative methodology which explores peoples' stories around their experiences. This study aims to understand more about parents’ experiences and how they make sense of them using a narrative enquiry.
