Research summary
This study seeks to explore the experiences of newly qualified nurses in their preceptorship year (the year of transition from student to professional nurse) as they progress through the year-long preceptor programme at Gateshead Heath NHS Foundation Trust. Participants will be surveyed or interviewed at three time points during their preceptor year:4 months 8 months and 12 months and asked about their experiences of the preceptorshop programme. Data will be analysed using a constant comparative analytic framework (comparing all survey and interview data) to identify a core body of themes which reflect the participants experiences. The findings will be written up for the Trust Executive, the Nursing workforce and submitted for publication in nursing journals. The study will be used to further develop the preceptorship programme to ensure it meets the needs of the nursing workforce
