Research summary
The number of research projects within nephrology is lower than in other areas. Moreover, a large number of these research projects fail to recruit enough participants to provide meaningful evidence, which will enhance clinical care. Overcoming the problems of increasing the number and quality of research projects are substantial, however they can be addressed with input from clinicians participants and researchers.
Patients with end-stage renal disease are a relatively small cohort within the UK, however they have a large burden of disease which in turn places a huge burden on the economy. This has led to a call to improve the amount of research in this population to provide more cost-effective treatments which will improve patient outcomes in the long run. To reach this goal it will be vital to design more efficient research projects that will be acceptable to participants.
Therefore, this project will understand recruitment to research trials, the acceptance of different research trial designs to patients, the overall satisfaction and other key factors around research trials that individuals with end-stage renal disease identify.
In order to do this, this project will conduct interviews with end-stage renal disease patients. The interview participants will comprise of individuals who have, and have not previously taken part in research projects.REC name
