  • Research summary

An intensive trauma programme for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) was developed in the Netherlands and has been found to help people reduce their symptoms of PTSD. Due to the success of the programme in the Netherlands, it is now being used in the NHS in Wales.
This research project will be separated into two work packages to explore the intensive trauma programme in Wales.

Work Package 1 aims to understand how individuals respond to the intensive trauma programme and whether it helps reduce PTSD symptoms. The results will help us understand whether this programme is helpful to the Welsh population in the context of the NHS.

A unique part of this programme is that participants see multiple psychological therapists throughout instead of just one. To understand this experience, work package 2 aims to conduct interviews with participants to understand what it was like to engage with different therapists—focusing on whether they felt safe and supported, and what factors helped or hindered the development of trust and continued engagement in the treatment process.
