Research summary
This study aims to understand users' experiences and opinions about an online decision-support tool called ‘My Pneumothorax Journey.’ The tool is designed to help people with primary spontaneous pneumothorax (PSP).
This condition occurs when healthy lungs leak air into the chest through a small hole or tear. This air creates pressure in the chest, which can cause the lungs to collapse. PSP affects about 3,000 people every year in the United Kingdom (UK).
It is important for patients to be involved in making decisions about treatment options, as there are many. "My Pneumothorax Journey is an online decision support tool co-produced with patients to provide key information. After using this tool, it is important to look at its effect and make improvements. To understand the experiences of patients and staff using the tool, we will use a survey, focus group with healthcare professionals, and patient interviews.
We will use the findings to improve the tool, ensuring it meets the needs of patients with PSP and aiding its use by healthcare professionals. This will aid shared decision-making for patients with PSP.
The results of this study will be presented at local, national, and international conferences and published in a high-quality professional journal. All participants will receive a copy of the results.
