Research summary
People with dementia can often be admitted to hospital without this being planned. This experience can be distressing for the person and their family members due to the unfamiliar and chaotic environment. This study seeks to understand, through semi-structured interviews with 14 people with dementia, the experience of hospital admission for people living with dementia. Interviews will be held in person or remotely depending on location and participant needs and preferences. Interviews will be analysed using an in-depth thematic analysis. The study aims to co-produce with experts by experience suggestions on how to improve the hospital admission, stay, and discharge experience for people with dementia.
