Research summary
The current project aims to explore adult forensic mental health service user experiences of transition from Secure Services to the community with the support of a Forensic Community Mental Health Team (FCMHT). The project aims to develop an understanding that might empower the FCMHT to target intervention to enhance experiences of transition where appropriate.
Participants will be people who are supported by the FCMHT in the community following their discharge. Individual semi-structured interviews will be carried out and a Thematic Analysis will be conducted. The interview will consider three time periods in the transition process, split into before, during and after the move from secure hospital to the community and the support received from the Forensic Community Mental Health Team (FCMHT) during each stage of this process. This will include involvement in meetings, legal processes such as Mental Health Act (1986), viewing potential accommodation, meeting staff members, psychological impact such as distress and impact on mental health and wellbeing, understandings of the process and degree of support at each stage.
