Research summary
This study will explore the experiences (narratives) of spinal cord injured women who are or have been pregnant post their spinal cord injury. Their feelings, stories and interactions with society, healthcare providers, support groups and family in achieving normality in becoming a parent will be collected and analysed. An exploration of healthcare provider’s experiences will also be examined and a review of current support websites and meetings will be critiqued in its relevance and value. Phenomenological themes(common experiences) will be analysis in the context of symbolic (identifiers) interactions between disabled and non-disabled and in through an exploration of personhood (own perception of self in context of others) in society.
