Research summary
With the changing landscape of mental health provision in Southampton, it is imperative that we gather service user’s experience of their support systems. This can include primary and secondary mental health provision, but also community and personal networks, such as self-help groups, family members and art groups. We aim to ascertain what they found helpful, what they found unhelpful (and perhaps triggers) and also their experience of stigma within the community setting. We will garner this data by interviewing 12 adults who are currently, or have previously, used mental health services within Southampton. After the data has been analysed and anonymised we will then host a focus group to ensure that the key themes are meaningful to the service users. These will then be fed back to Healthwatch and the local trusts/services to inform provision.
