Research summary
To explore in detail the lived experiences of people from coastal areas in accessing cancer treatment including access to psychosocial (formal and informal) support. I plan to develop and undertake 20 semi-structured interviews with lung cancer patients living in coastal communities. The purpose of these interviews will be to gain greater insight into the experience of accessing cancer treatment, and in particular, issues relating to travelling to cancer centres/units from coastal areas.
An initial literature search has found potentially relevant practical and psychosocial experiences (including experiences of travel) which will not be captured in the cancer registry dataset. These interviews will allow a deeper understanding of the issues and how people respond to them.REC name
