Research summary
Disabled children tend to be more frequently admitted to hospital than other children and their seems to be very little research on their experience. I want to measure parents thoughts of how they and their child felt during their admission, measure their satisfaction throughout their journey through outpatients, pre-assessment and the ward they stayed on. Staff perceptions and thoughts of how they found caring for a child with IDD and the challenging behaviour that sometimes comes with this will also be examined. Existing evidence suggests that these admissions are better when planned. A detailed account of parent and staff perspectives is missing from the research evidence and that is what I am aiming to report on with this project.
