  • Research summary

This research study would like to understand the experience of a mental health crisis for young people by exploring the perspectives of young people, parents/carers and professionals. Research in this area has mainly focused on crisis care for adults and there is limited research relating to mental health crises experienced by young people. It is important to understand the experience of mental health crisis for young people as the area is under-researched which can impact the way that services are designed and the support which young people and their parents/carers receive. Mental health crisis care for children and young people is a current focus within the NHS and is currently developing.
This study is looking to recruit 15-18 participants and will be recruiting from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS). Young people (aged 13-17), parents and carers, and professionals will be recruited. Young people and parents/carers of young people who have had an open referral to the CAMHS crisis team in the last 12-months will be able to take part in the study. Professionals working in CAMHS Crisis teams will be recruited. Participants will have a 20-minute appointment with the researcher to discuss the study and discuss consent to take part then will be invited to a 60-minute one-off interview. This research study is funded by the University of Nottingham. The study will last for approximately 12-months.
