Research summary
This will be a service-related project based in the Blackpool Cardiac Centre to address a clinical need identified by a Clinical Psychologist working in the service (Dr Joanne Sanderson, acting as a Field Supervisor). We are interested in the experiences of people who have had a previous diagnosis of cancer and have subsequently experienced heart failure. We are keen to hear about people’s personal experiences of these conditions and their thoughts about the support they have received or would like to receive in the future. To achieve our aims, we are looking to recruit a small number of people who fit our inclusion criteria to attend an interview. We will then analyse data using the qualitative approach of interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA).
It is hoped that any findings we produce will be helpful in informing the psychological support offered within physical health services in Blackpool and will benefit patients who present with these needs in the future. We will aim to address the specific needs of the service by gaining insights to help answer the following questions:
1. How can the psychological needs of this group be met in the Blackpool service?
2. Who in the clinical psychology team is best placed to deliver this care?REC name
