Research summary
Ankylosing Spondylitis is a chronic inflammatory disease that causes persistent back pain and stiffness of joints. These clinical symptoms lead to significant loss of function, work disability and impaired health-related quality of life. The health- related quality of life areas affected in Ankylosing Spondylitis include: mental, physical and social well-being as well as the patients' satisfaction with treatment. Because of this, there is a growing interest in this area . There is little previous research using qualitative methods. The aim of this study is to explore the lived experience of health-related quality of life in Bangladeshi patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis. This is a qualitative study using semi-structured interviews in 10-15 patients recruited from an outpatients department. Patients who are 18 years or above diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis will be included in the study. The participants will be recruited from the Bangladeshi community in Tower hamlets.
