Research summary
Despite positive findings of the benefits of outdoor therapy for a range of outcomes, including improving mental wellbeing and self-esteem, there is a lack of research exploring the experiences of service users receiving a service from an early intervention psychosis service and engaging in an outdoor therapy group, and none have been undertaken in the UK.
The present study will therefore explore the experiences of this population of engaging with a nascent, weekly outdoor therapy group intervention in North Wales. The group has been designed to be graded, with therapy and activity being integrated away from the home environment, with participants engaging in a range of activities including sailing and beach cleans. The study will hopefully provide the basis of ongoing developments of the outdoor therapy group, and will be relevant for other early intervention services around the UK.
Participants will be interviewed, and the study is expected to last approximately seven months, to allow for interviews to be undertaken, transcribed, and analysed.
