Research summary
Whilst the psychological burden of cancer more generally is well researched, it is believed that gynaecological cancers pose additional, distinct challenges to those affected, that may impact how somebody experiences the disease. This project aims to understand how women experience compassion from self and others, and whether this experience changes throughout the cancer journey, in order to inform current clinical practice and ultimately contribute towards improving the lives of women living with gynaecological cancer. Participants will currently have, or will have had, a primary diagnosis of one of the five gynaecological cancers- cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal and vulval cancer. These women will take part in an interview, lasting around 60 minutes, that will aim to explore experiences of compassion to self and from others, through a semi-structured interview format. The study aims to complete by April of 2026.
