Research summary
An interview based exploration into the experiences of control of adolescents with type 1 diabetes and how these have an impact on their lives and diabetes management. There have been many studies looking into relationships between feelings of control and diabetes management as well as psychological disorders, however there have been no studies investigating adolescents real life experiences of how their feelings of control can impact on their lives. Adolescents between the ages of 14 and 19 who have type 1 diabetes will complete the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire. If they score 5 or lower on either of the personal or treatment control sub scales they will be invited back for an interview about their experiences. The procedure will last for a maximum of 105 minutes across the two sessions of completing the questionnaire and completing the interview, as well as being de-briefed after the interview.
