Research summary
This study explores the experiences and perceptions of pregnant women who have been diagnosed with uterine fibroids while receiving maternity care in England. Fibroids are non-cancerous growths that can sometimes affect pregnancy, yet little is known about how women experience pregnancy and healthcare while living with this condition.
The study will involve one-to-one interviews with around ten pregnant women aged 18 years and above who are receiving antenatal care through NHS clinics. Each interview will last about 30 to 60 minutes and will explore the women’s personal experiences, feelings, and views about pregnancy and healthcare support.
Participation is voluntary, and women can withdraw at any time without affecting their care. The interviews will be audio-recorded, anonymised, and securely stored. No medical treatment or clinical procedures are involved.
The study will help to improve understanding of how fibroids affect women’s pregnancy experiences and interactions with healthcare professionals. The findings may inform NHS maternity services and contribute to the development of more supportive and inclusive models of care.
