Research summary
The research question is to qualitatively explore the experience of being part of the Ealing’s Healthy Family’s Intervention called ALFIE. To examine the experiences of key stakeholders and get a greater understanding from those who implemented the programme (NHS staff) and the service users who took part in the programme (parents/ guardians or adult care givers only). With this, we get a rich, detailed, and a specific handle on what worked or didn’t work and an insight into thoughts and feelings. This adds to existing knowledge on childhood weight management and informing future development of paediatric weight management services.
Existing literature is heavily quantitative and highlights weight loss outcomes without fully examining lived experiences; presenting opportunities for a qualitative study. To satisfactorily comply with NHS quality requirements, data should come from service user feedback as well as outcomes (DoH, 2011). Additionally, qualitative feedback may allow comparisons to be made with existing quantitative research, giving a clearer picture of the programme. It is important to state that this is a retrospective research, the participants have already completed the ALFIE programme and have taken part a while ago. Service user’s information is recorded into the Data Collection and Reporting System (DCRS) database by the NHS staff who deliver the programme. From this stored data, essential information pertaining to this study can be extracted, such as contact details and names of parents. Data regarding children will not be looked at nor extracted. Recruitment will be in line with the requirements on NHS site and the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) act. With the contact details, I can then invite participants to take part in the interview via email, phone, or one-to-one interview; whichever is most convenient to them. Interview's will take place on NHS site.
Children will be excluded and not be interviewed.
