  • Research summary

We proposed measuring lung function in children and young people using the Exhalyzer D lung function device to be able to establish a normal range in healthy children, as well as understanding how this test can be used in those attending the respiratory clinic with a variety of respiratory conditions such as cystic fibrosis, asthma, bronchiectasis and recurrent respiratory infection.
To do this we will ask children and young people aged 6 to 18 years old with no lung disease to attend on one day and perform the multiple breath washout test. We will also seek to recruit children and young people already undergoing this test because their clinician has decided they need to have it done. Whenever they are attending for clinical reasons, we would ask that their measurements are included in the study. For this group, they will not have any additional tests done other than what would have been done anyway.
