Data collection arrangements
Sample storage: Case identifiers and sample locations are recorded in a secure electronic database accessible only by members of the local research team in Exeter. All samples are held in secure locations within the RILD Building on the Royal Devon and Exeter hospital site and their use is logged and recorded electronically.
Research programme
Samples are used mainly by the Islet Biology Group within the Exeter Centre of Excellence in Diabetes to study the immunopathology of type 1 diabetes. Collaborating groups from elsewhere (both in the UK and beyond) may also access the samples subject to appropriate approval. In particular, members of consortia associated with EU-wide initiatives (INNODIA and INNODIA-HARVEST)and a USA-based project (nPOD, HIRN)to elucidate the aetiology of type 1 diabetes may be given access.
