  • Research summary

Patients who have undergone successful repair for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) may still have poor long-term survival primarily due to death from cardiovascular disease (CVD). Optimal management of CVD risk is crucial to improve survival. The use of cardio-protective medication plays a key role in improving the CV risk profile in these patients; however, changes in lifestyle can also improve CV risk. Physical activity and fitness are inversely associated with CV mortality and adoption of a more active lifestyle may reduce CV risk. To help tailor future interventions to improve CV risk, habitual physical activity and fitness levels in AAA patients must be established.
