Research summary
Cardiac rehabilitation is an effective approach to reduce cardiovascular risk and improve quality of life in cardiac patients as-well-as individuals with multiple coronary risk factors. However, lack of uptake and adherence to cardiac rehabilitation is a huge problem for the NHS and it means many patients are missing out on the life-enhancing benefits of cardiac rehabilitation.
Therefore the aim of this study is to examine the challenges faced by patients which affect their participation in cardiac rehabilitation programmes.
This study will interview non-attenders or non-adherers to the cardiac rehabilitation programme. The subjects will be from recruited from two hospitals, Solihull and Heartlands hospital in Birmingham and the study will last up-to December 2020
Subjects will have three options when agreeing to be interviewed once, this is to ensure maximum response from each subject contacted. The two options are a telephone call or an interview at the patients home. Each interview will last approximately 30 minutes and will be recorded. Interviews will then be written up into a world document and key topics will be picked out.
