  • Research summary

This research study aims to explore the experiences and unmet needs of informal carers of patients with end-stage kidney disease receiving haemodialysis and gain insight into their everyday caring role and how best they might be supported. Interviews will be carried out with 30 carers, providing informal care to patients with end-stage kidney disease who attend Antrim Area and Belfast City Hospitals Renal Unit for haemodialysis. Findings will be shared with approximately 24-32 renal healthcare staff from both hospitals through focus group interviews. The reason for doing this is to provide feedback from the interviews with the informal carers and staff in order to inform the development of a suitable psychosocial intervention to support the informal carers.
