Research summary
Ebola virus disease (EVD) is an acute febrile illness associated with bleeding, organ failure, and shock. There is no vaccination and no treatment available for use in humans. The pathogenesis of the disease is hardly understood and data from human cases are extremely rare.
The objective of this study is to determine virological, immunological, cellular, and pathophysiological mechanisms that may play a role in the pathogenesis of Ebola virus disease. Immunological responses to EVD are to be studied. The results will inform EVD vaccine development and help to answer questions such as how are Ebola survivors protected against reinfection, and to what extent might they be protected against different strains of Ebola/future outbreaks.REC name
