Research summary
This project has two aims: 1) to establish the needs of service users with co-existing neurodevelopmental and mental health disorder and whether these needs are being met by CTUHB, and 2) To evaluate knowledge and understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) amongst staff working within adult mental health services in CTUHB. This study is a two-phased study, with aim 1 being dealt with in Phase 1, and aim 2 being dealt with in Phase 2.
In Phase 1 individual interviews/focus groups will be undertaken with service users (either online or face-to-face). Service users will have a diagnosis of ASD with a co-occurring mental health disorder. Interviews/focus groups will last approximately one hour.
In Phase 2, a ‘Knowledge and Understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder Questionnaire’ will be distributed to Mental Health Staff to assess their knowledge of ASD. Staff will also have an option to take part in a follow-up focus group which will explore staff perceptions of their knowledge and understanding of ASD in relation to service user feedback from Phase 1.REC name
