  • Research summary

This study is an evaluation of the Carers' Pilot Programme run by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE). The evaluation involves: site visits to 9 different pilot sites across the UK, telephone interviews with carers, those who are cared for, stakeholders involved in the pilots, and employers; an online/phone census survey of carers; and an impact evaluation involving Impact evaluation covering cost benefit analysis (CBA), value for money (VFM), and social return on investment (SROI).

The part of this study we are applying for ethical approval of are the interviews with cared for people.

Key benefits of the study are:

    ■ A highly expert team comprising experts in pilot programmes to help disadvantaged people to retain and gain employment and knowledge of employment challenges for carers
    ■ A holistic impact and process evaluation of the pilot drawing our experience of other similar projects
    ■ A comprehensive data collection process which will encompass the opportunity for all carer participants to express their views
    ■ A specialist team in evaluation capability building to provide formative and developmental support to the pilots
    ■ Opportunities for Local Authority pilot sites to co-produce the research and evaluation using a collaborative outcomes reporting approach
