  • Research summary

The aim of this project is to provide an evaluation of a physical inactivity intervention- Let’s Get Moving (LGM).

The LGM intervention is a nationally recognised programme utilising motivational interviewing (MI) delivered by community exercise professionals (CEPs). The aim of intervention is to improve levels of physical activity. In this instance, the LGM intervention will be delivered by separate organisation- UKactive- in two GP Practices in Kent.

To evaluate the LGM we will be conducting one-to-one telephone interviews with individuals who participate in the intervention. The interviews will explore views on how the LGM intervention was delivered, whether the advice and support received was appropriate, and whether this support impacted on levels of physical activity. Alongside the participant interviews, the evaluation will also use data collected by UKactive on participant outcomes- for example, attendance and retention numbers, self-report measures on physical activity levels, BMI data, HbA1c blood test data, and notes taken by CEP from the MI session.

The purpose of this ethics application is to describe elements of the research that we (CHSS) are directly involved in (i.e., designing and conducting the one-to-one interviews). The application will make brief mention of the LGM intervention when appropriate, but the design and methodology of the intervention is not described in full as a) it is not be the responsibility of the evaluation team to run the intervention and b)ethical approval for this element has already be obtained by the provider- UKactive.
