Research summary
Diabetes affects approximately 8% of the UK population and accounts for 10% of current NHS spending. MyDiabetesMyWay (MDMW) is an interactive website for people with diabetes that also acts as a patient portal, allowing users to access their own clinical data. MDMW was developed within NHS Scotland and is currently used by approximately 30,000 people with diabetes. The UK government has provided funding to offer MDMW within NHS England, with NHS Somerset being the first area to pilot this. This study will evaluate the use of MDMW within NHS Somerset and assess whether or not the system is associated with improvements in health outcomes.
