  • Research summary

Up to 70% of demand on police services due to mental health could be attributed to a small number of ‘high-intensity users’. ‘Serenity Integrated Mentoring’ (SIM) was developed in 2013 to meet the needs of these individuals and reduce demand on emergency services. Two High Intensity Pilots (HIPs) of this intervention were implemented in Plymouth and North Devon in 2019. We aim to understand service users’, delivery teams’ and partner organisations’ experiences of and and views about the intervention. Semi-structured interviews will be conducted with service users and their families/carers, delivery teams and partner organisations, and focus groups conducted with key police and mental health service teams. Data from interviews and focus groups will be analysed to understand issues of importance to the delivery of the intervention and ways in which it could be improved. Findings will be fed back to the intervention delivery teams and the South West Academic Health Science Network (AHSN) to inform the next stage of the service. They will also be presented to service user groups and partner agencies and prepared for peer reviewed publication.
