Research summary
The incidence of cancer in women with breast pain alone (in the absence of further signs or symptoms) is low, with published rates between 1 to 1.8%. Despite this, mastalgia is one of the most common symptoms in women referred to a breast unit representing up to 69% of attendances. Recent increases in breast urgent referrals have increased the pressure on already overstretched services.
In this study, as part of an Masters in Health Policy, we would like to investigate the impact of an educational video on women's perception of breast pain. In the study the video and interview would occur after a “standard care” clinic appointment, but this has the potential to be distributed to general practitioners, and to patients directly if favourably received.REC name
