Research summary
This Northern Ireland project is funded jointly by the Public Health Agency (PHA) and the Patient Client Council (PCC) under the Enabling Research Award Scheme. It is expected that the findings from this short, small-scale project will in turn lead to an application for funding under the NIHR Evaluation, Trials and Studies (NETS) scheme in early 2015. The proposed project will evaluate the current state of Personal and Public Involvement (PPI) in health and social care in Northern Ireland. The following are the objectives which have been stipulated by the PHA in guiding the nature of the proposed study.
Stated Objectives:
1. To Identify best practice in PPI
2. To identify any barriers to effective involvement
3. To identify possible ways to overcome these barriers within the context of an integrated health & social care system
4. To Identify valid and reliable ways of measuring and evaluating the impact of PPI activity.
5. To ensure that users and carers are at the heart of this project in a significant and meaningful way.
In meeting these Objectives, the Project will involve four stages: literature review, on-line survey, focus groups and follow-up telephone interviewsIif the need for clarification arises). Together the findings from these four stages will enable the Team to then generate options to inform the development of a robust and reliable framework to monitor, measure and evaluate PPI activity and its impact on our health and social care services.
